Students meeting the specified criteria qualify for exemptions from both "MATH 101 - Calculus I" and "IF 100 - Computational Approaches to Problem Solving".

 

MATH 101-Calculus I Exemption Exam:

Students who:

  1. Have not yet taken MATH 101.
  2. Achieve a score of at least 85/100 in the "MATH 101 Exemption Exam" (*), administered by Sabancı University in the week before the semester starts.

Are eligible for exemption from MATH 101.

(*) The MATH 101 Exemption Exam closely resembles a typical final exam for the course and is conducted in English.

Textbook: Calculus Early Transcendentals 2nd Edition (Global Edition), by Briggs, Cochran & Gillett, Pearson.

Contents of the Exemption Exam:

  1. Elementary functions and limits (Chapters 1 and 2).
  2. Derivatives: definition, interpretation, computation, and applications (Chapters 3 and 4).
  3. Integration: definition, interpretation, and computation (Chapters 5 and 7).


IF 100 - Computational Approaches to Problem-Solving Exemption Exam:

Students who:

  1. Have not yet taken IF 100.
  2. Successfully pass the "IF 100 Exemption Exam" (**), a written exam administered by Sabanci University in the week before the semester starts.

Are eligible for exemption from IF 100.

Evaluation Criteria:

  1. Application of computational thinking skills in practice.
  2. Mastery of basic programming concepts in Python, including variables, assignment statements, input/output operations, conditional statements, loops, modular programming, file operations, and data structures like sequences and dictionaries, applied to real-life problems.

 

Exemption Application

If you wish to be exempted from MATH 101 and/or IF 100, you must submit a written statement to the Foundations Development Directorate (FDD) indicating your acceptance of the letter grade, as shown in the tables, no later than the final workday of the first week of classes. Failure to submit a written statement within the specified deadline will require you to enroll in the course during the first semester it is offered.
