Syrian refugees are forced to leave their country and there are hundreds of thousands Syrian children in İstanbul who are not attending school or any other psychosocial program. However, we know that after traumatic events such as war, children often exhibit violent behaviors or avoidance from others as a means of self-expression or dealing with rapid changes in their lives. In order to break this circle of trauma and psychological problems, early interventions are needed as preventative measures.

At PROJECT LIFT program of Maya Foundation, we aim to help these children through a 5 days trauma rehabilitation program using Art, Music and Movement therapy methods. Through creative activities children learn how to express emotions, increase self-organization and communicate effectively. These workshops are given by experts with the help of our volunteers. There are several roles that volunteers can take part in such as; family meetings, 5 days trauma rehabilitation workshops, reading days and community days. Volunteers become our third hand in our workshops!

Anyone who are interested in our program can attend to our trainings. For Turkish and English speaking volunteers, it is expected that they will help therapists in workshops. Also, we are searching for volunteers who are fluent in Arabic language. We expect them to bridge the verbal communication gap between children and their families and also to assist in workshops and on field trips.
